HotelWorldMap.com
Wednesday, April 25th, 2007Alright…next on the block is HotelWorldMap.com, which is for sale on web2.0forsale.com. The asking price for this site is $50,000. Now, I checked this site out and I do think it is kind of neat. You can pick hotels based on where they are located compared to popular landmarks….sort of cool. Most sites you can just see where the hotel is on a map, but not relative to landmarks in the area. BUT…this is definitely not worth $50K. There are a couple of problems.
1.) The site only seems to have hotels in Amsterdam…or Europe anyway. I tried typing in some major US cities and it didnt’ work for any of them. That needs to be fixed.
2.) As far as I can see…there is no way to refine the results. You should be able to filter out hotels that are over a certain amount or whatever…you basically can just see all the hotels in the area and thats it.
3.) And this is the biggest problem…ITS A MASHUP! Basically its taking Hotel.com’s database and overlaying it on a Google Map. There are high school kids that can make a mashup like this during study hall.
I do think the concept of this is a decent one…searching for hotels based on map location (it really lets you see where exactly the hotel is compared to everything else)…but the site needs to be world wide, not just Europe. You need to be able to filter out hotels…based on price at the minimum. And I wouldn’t pay more than $1500 for this site…and that might be a stretch.
